Let’s Get Started

I gave a brief overview about us in our About page. In case you haven’t been, or don’t want to click over, I’ll give you a recap below. We are Leng, Matt, Logan, Quentin (Q) and Oliver. I bought this domain after our first big trip across the world to New Zealand the summer of 2017 as a way to …

One Month Post-Op: Jan. 14

Today marks 1 month since Matt’s surgery, 1 month since I stayed awake for nearly 36 hours straight, 1 month since our families sat anxiously waiting the outcome of his surgery, 1 month since his brain went through its greatest trauma. Though there is still a long road ahead, I am so proud of how far he has come. Day …

Next Steps: Jan 11

Thank you everyone who sent words of support, thoughts and prayers to us this morning. We made a trip to Iowa City yesterday for Matt’s MRI and again today for a follow-up with the surgeon and radiation oncologist. Matt’s surgical site seems to be healing just fine and the MRI shows normal healing of the brain. As mentioned a couple …

Few Days Home: Jan 8

Since Matt has been home we have experienced more ups and downs — we knew the transition home would not be an easy one, but we are getting along the best as we can. Matt is definitely happy to be home. The boys are happy that he is home. School drop off has been wonderful. There are little to no …

Finally Home

After 4 weeks in hospitals, Matt is FINALLY home! Thank you to all our friends and family who were able to make it for the surprise. It’s going to be a big transition, but we are ready. Matt will begin in-home speech, occupational, and physical therapies next week. Oli is excited to have him back ❤️

Good News & Bad News: Jan. 2

This morning Matt and I were transported via Joy Ride — the non-emergent medical transport — to Iowa City for his follow-up appointment. That’s right, NO AMBULANCE! They removed the stitches from his surgery today. The suture from Christmas Eve remains, but we’ll be back again next week for that removal. Unfortunately we didn’t get the best of news today …

Here’s to the New Year

This year we journeyed our way across the country and visited national parks in Utah and Arizona. I trekked my way to Los Angeles for a few days for work, and a couple weeks later Logan and I went on a special adventure to New York City — it had been his dream since he was 3. In late summer …

Food! December 28

Today Matt was upgraded to eat “real” food that doesn’t look like baby food! He sent me home tonight with a wishlist of foods. I think this change will definitely help his spirits and healing, as eating baby-like food has been extremely discouraging for him. After our scare — and fix — on Christmas Eve we have noticed improvements in …

Random Act of Kindness: December 26

I know I sound like a broken record, but this month has been a whirlwind of ups and downs; when some days seem impossible, I am constantly reminded of all the good. This morning the boys and I were woken up by cleaners. Our friend had paid for extra cleanings so I wouldn’t have to worry about keeping the house …

Ambulanced to Iowa City: Christmas Eve

Matt experienced a very serious and potentially fatal complication yesterday. But thank you to my sister, Hong, and cousin, Liyen and Joshua, who noticed, doctors intervened and he was immediately ambulanced to Iowa City. CSF leaks are no joke — especially after a major brain surgery like Matt’s. The neurosurgeons wanted to get him into another complex surgery as soon …

Our First Family Picture: December 22

Matt is ready to share. Our first family photo post surgery. This past month has been a whirlwind, but I am thankful for these moments — good and bad.
